Devotional: Seek Not the Vision of Our Own Heart, But of God
SEEK NOT THE VISION OF OUR OWN HEART, BUT OF GOD
It is a natural desire to know about the future. The Bible tells us that visions can tell us about the future. The challenge is that the Bible also tells us that not all visions, dreams, and prophecies come from God, and thus all visions are not true.
Solomon's Dream
|
Before accepting any vision, prophecy, or dream as true, we need to ask ourselves what is the source of the vision. The Bible tells that prophecy and visions can come from three sources, the Holy Spirit, the human spirit, or a satanic spirit (1 John 4:1-6). Only visions, prophecies, and dreams that come from God are true. If a prophecy denies or brings unbelief to the Word of God, that prophecy is not of God. If a prophecy will cause us to distance ourselves from our relationship with God, then this prophecy is not of God and is either coming from our own sinful heart or a satanic spirit.
God is the only one that can pronounce the future. God loves us and reveals the future to us through prophecies to have us draw closer to Him. There are endless examples in the Bible that show us that God's prophecies, dreams and visions are given by God to bring us into a closer relationship with Him. We on the other hand must want to seek to know God as to discern what is a false vision and what is a godly vision.
