Trust Definition - Trust Truth, Not Lies
Isaiah 59:4. The definition of trust is the "reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, and surety of a person or thing". Another way to say this is that trust is all about relying on the promise of what another person or thing can do (what you think they can do). The issue with trust is that people will mistake a promise for a truth. Just because you trust in someone's honesty does not make them honest. One of the biggest source of lies comes from the phrase, "don't you trust me." This line could come from a boyfriend attempting to have sex with his girlfriend or a response from an acquaintance who is asking to borrow money. This is a major issue in society. We are not encouraged to look for truth or justice, but we are encouraged to blindly trust people. It is easy to trust in lies because it makes us feel good and gives us false hope. We speak lies and make up promises that we soon forget. From a Christian perspective, these false promises lead us away from truth and into sin based on disobedience to God(Isaiah 59:4, "None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity").
