A Passion for Jesus Comes From a Purified Heart
James 4:8. How can you have a passion for Jesus unless this passion consumes you? A passion for Jesus can only occur if your heart is purely devoted to Jesus and God's purposes. You cannot have passion for someone and be double-minded about that same person. Passion is defined as “any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate”. A passion for Jesus is an emotion, a desire, that compels you to draw closer to Jesus and to God. You can only draw closer to God if you purify your heart. James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.”
A passion for Jesus goes hand-in-hand with purifying your heart. This never ending process of purification and sanctification starts when you first encounter Jesus. Your first encounter with Jesus creates a love, a passion to stay in His presence. All you can do is think about Jesus. This passion for Jesus can only continue when you realize that the only way that you are going to get closer to God and Jesus is to purify yourself (stop sinning).
God cannot be in the presence of sin. If you continue to sin, you draw yourself away from God and He draws away from you. Jesus has given us salvation as well as the power through the Holy Ghost to sin no more. Our passion for Jesus only continues when we continue to go through the purification and sanctification process of drawing closer and closer to Him.
