Define Delusions – Caught Up In Deceit We Refuse To Know God

Jeremiah 9:6. You can define delusions from a Christian perspective as getting so caught up in lies that we tell ourselves that we do not even realize we are rejecting God by believing those lies. We will start with little lies such as thinking that God is the God of love, but conveniently forgetting that he is also the God of righteousness. We will tell little, white lies to our neighbor to boost our prestige. We will develop habits of lying where we will make promises to others and ourselves that we know in our heart we will not keep. Just think of New Year’s resolutions. How many people fulfill those promises to themselves? If we had previously had a relationship with God and we slip where we tell lies to ourselves, God will separate Himself from our lies and from us. In our delusion we will not realize that we are separated from God. Through all these lies and delusions, we develop a lifestyle that rejects God. (Jeremiah 9:5-6, “And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.”).
