Trust Definition - Trust God, Not Things
Psalms 49:6. From a Christian perspective, the definition of trust means trusting God and not other things. Many people put their trust in wealth and the promises of wealth over God. Most people gamble and play the lottery because there is a promise of wealth if they win. By their actions, they have more hope on winning the lottery than hope in God that He will come through for them.
God desires for us to not lack, but there are things that wealth cannot bring us. Wealth cannot buy us into heaven. Neither can it buy our spouses, mother, sons, and so on into heaven. Only God can offer us eternal life. All things on this Earth, no matter the value, will one day corrupt, fade, rust, or decay and be no more. Only God and His promises will remain the same and never corrupt. Never take pride in your riches (Psalms 49:6-9, "They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption".
