No Excuse In Denying God - Nature vs Nurture Debate
Romans 1:20. Most people have at one time or another gotten caught up in the nature vs nurture debate. In this debate both sides take a position of why a person acts in a certain manner. Is it their environment that causes their actions or were they born that way?
For Christians, it is best not to have a strong position either way in regard to nature vs nurture. In many cases the debate is initiated in order to justify someone’s bad actions. These acts could be the act of homosexuality, lying, thievery, hatred, and even murder. In the final analysis both sides of the argument are looking for an excuse for a person’s bad actions.
But where is God in this nature vs nurture debate? We need to step back and get God's perspective on this debate. In regard to our nature, God did not create us to be bad. As we are God’s creation, the Bible is clear that our nature is instilled with God’s purpose. God’s purpose is not for us to commit any type of sin. In the final analysis, sin is just disobedience to God. God did not create us to be disobedient to Him.
Though God and His supernatural power is invisible to us, all of us in our heart of heart know there is a God and what is right and wrong. He is our creator. He has given us a purpose that does not involve sin and disobedience. We are without excuse in regard to sin and our bad actions. Neither our nature nor how we were nurtured is a good excuse for anyone to continue in sin (Romans 1:19-20, “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”).
