Summary: Mothers are inseparable from their children. Without children, a mother is not a mother. A mother’s love is a selfless love where a mother is prepared to sacrifice everything for their children. At the same time a mother’s love includes discipline and should not just accept anything that a son or daughter does as OK. See below for Biblical advice and scriptures concerning a mother’s love.
Mothers, Both New and Old, Are Inseparable From Their Children.
Eve was the first mother. Her name means “life, living, life-spring”. She is the mother of all of mankind. Without children, a mother is not a mother. Genesis 3:20 tells us that Eve was the mother of all living.
Genesis 3:20, “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.”

A Mother’s Love is a Selfless Love.
A mother’s love can never be separated from her children. King Solomon knew this and that a true mother would never agree to her child being harmed. 1st Kings 3:26 tells of King Solomon’s justice and how a mother was prepared to sacrifice everything for her son.
1st Kings 3:26, “Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.”

A Mother’s Love is Sometimes a Hard Love.
It is natural for a mother’s love to be forgiving and not judging. At the same time a mother’s love should not just accept anything that a son or daughter does as OK. Proverbs 29:15 advises mothers to instill wisdom in their children by punishment if necessary.
Proverbs 29:15, “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.”
