How to Add Value – Do Not Misapply the Golden Rule

Proverbs 24:29. The Bible tells us how to add value in any situation by following the Golden Rule (Luke 6:31, "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise"). This means at work employees should treat bosses as they would desire to be treated and visa versa. What we need to watch out after is that we do not misapply the Golden Rule. It is easy to get caught up in an “eye for eye” (Exodus 21:24) situation. This is where if someone treats us poorly we will do the same to them.

How to Add Value – Stay Pure and Your Work Will Be Right

Proverbs 21:8. The Bible tells us how to add value and how not to add value in any situation. Proverbs 21:8 says, “The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.” This scripture is telling us that if we live by the way of man we will be full of strife and disobedience not adding value to the world around us. On the other hand if we live a life of purity that is pleasing to God, we will add value and our works will be right. The way of man is froward. Froward meaning “habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition”.

How to Add Value, A Christian Perspective

Ephesians 4:28. The Bible teaches us how to add value in any situation. We add value by working on things that are good (Ephesians 4:28, “... but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” the word “good” has many definitions to include: morally excellent, high quality, right, proper, worthy, genuine, and so on. All of these definitions do well in describes the excellence of the things that should be the output of our labor.

Cultural Values Are Defined By Society's Capabilities and It's Religious Views

Ephesians 2:2. The Ingle-Welzel Cultural Map of the World (see map) provides an excellent graphic depiction of what shapes cultural values (See World Values Survey Site for more information on the Ingle-Welzel Cultural Map). Cultural values are principles, standards, or qualities considered worthwhile or desirable to a given society. The depicted cultural map defines all cultures on a two-dimensional scale: how religious the society and the capability of the society to fulfill individual needs.

Love is the Fulfillment of God's Will

Romans 13:10. Love is a characteristic that God desires everyone to possess. The love that God desires for us is a special type of love called “agape” love. Agape love is defined as unmerited favor. This is a love that we show to others even if they do not deserve our loving kindness. Agape love is the love that God shows to all of mankind with the offer of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ, His Son. This type of love never shows ill will to anyone. It is the love we show when we love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

Christian Definition of Brethren

Matthew 12:50. Matthew 12:50 spells out the Christian definition of brethren. It says, “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother”. You are a Christian brethren if you voluntarily do the will of God. The Bible teaches us that God's will is for us is to freely accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. With accepting salvation through Jesus Christ, God's will is for all of mankind to receive eternal life and be in fellowship with Him forever.

Christian Brethren Are Responsible for Treating Strangers With Brotherly Kindness

Matthew 25:40. In Matthew 25 the Bible teaches us that Christian brethren are to treat everyone (strangers) with brotherly kindness. Christians are not an exclusive club where Christian brethren should treat fellow brethren with more kindness than strangers. This is regardless if the stranger is a Christian brethren or not (Matthew 25:40, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”). It is not our job as Christians to judge people as Christians or not.

Swift Justice is a Purpose of Government

Ecclesiastes 8:11. The Bible provides a lot of wisdom in regard to the purpose of Government. This not only includes broad, guiding principles such as the Ten commandments, but also on small matters such as how Governments should manage judicial courts. Ecclesiastes 8:11 says, “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil”. Many Governments have laws about swift justice, but many Governments do not practice swift justice.

Purpose of Government – Encourage People To Live Right

Genesis 8:17. Starting with Noah, God began to provide mankind a framework and a purpose of Government. The basic purpose of Government laid down by God was to encourage people to live right. Previously mankind had not had human Government and had failed to live right without laws (thus the Flood). When Noah disembarked from the Ark, God began to give Noah instructions that started to bring about human Government.

Jesus is the Way To Self-Control

Colossians 3:17. Many of us seek self-control, but Jesus is the only true way to self-control. He is the only human that has walked on this Earth and was perfect. He had perfect self-control. He had no sin in Him. He was perfect and had no sin in Him because besides being human He was God walking on this Earth. He came here to save us from our sin and from being out of the will of God. If we accept His free gift of salvation, we will be saved and can be perfect as He is perfect. He has given us the power and the living example of how to be perfect in this sinful world.
