Who is Adam and Eve? In the Beginning They Knew Not Sin or Death.

Bible Summary. Adam and Eve were not supposed to know about good and evil. They at first only knew about life and nothing about death. Adam and Eve only became to know about good, evil, and death when they sinned against God. For their sins, they were cursed and driven from the garden of Eden to not eat of the tree of life. See below for more commentary and scriptures concerning Adam and Eve who at first knew nothing of sin and death.

Who is Adam and Eve? They at First Had No Knowledge of Good and Evil.

God did provide Adam and Eve some rules to live by in the garden of Eden. One of these rules was for them not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”). They were not to know about good and evil. Here God was giving them good advice so that they could continue to live the good life in paradise. Genesis 2:17 advises us of the consequences of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:17, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Who is Adam and Eve? Eternal Life Was Taken From Them For Their Transgression.

In the beginning Adam and Eve did not know death. They only knew life in the garden of Eden. Life was good and with no expectation or knowledge of death. Adam and Eve only became to know death when they sinned against God. One of the curses they received for their sins was a death sentence. Genesis 3:19 tells us of Adam and Eve’s curse of death for sinning against God.

Genesis 3:19, “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

Who is Adam and Eve? Their Sin Gave Them Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Adam and Eve who now had sinned were now aware of good and evil. They now had access to this knowledge of God, but now they were cursed because of their sin that had brought them this new knowledge. Genesis 3:22 tells us that Adam and Eve now knew the difference between good and evil because of their sin.

Genesis 3:22, “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:”

Who is Adam and Eve? They Were Denied Eternal Life by Being Driven From the Garden of Eden.

One of the reasons that God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden was to deny them eternal life. The tree of life in the garden of Eden offered Adam and Eve the opportunity for eternal life. Now that they were in sin from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, God would not allow them access to eternal life. So he drove them out of the garden of Eden and posted cherubims to guard the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:24 tells how God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden to prevent them from eating of the tree of life.

Genesis 3:24, “So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.”
