Awakening Conscience To God

Bible Summary. One of the many things Jesus Christ did on this Earth was to awaken our conscience. Jesus’ desire through His blood is for us to completely purge our conscience and serve the living God. An example of Jesus bringing conviction to our conscience is best demonstrated with the stoning of the adulteress as told in the gospel of John. By Jesus speaking the truth about the people’s own sin and not just the adulteress, he brought self-conviction on the hearers of His word and they did not stone the adulteress. God’s Truth awakens our conscience where we willingly become obedient to Him. See below for Biblical commentary and advice concerning awakening the conscience,

Christ Awakens the Conscience.

One of the many things Jesus Christ did on this Earth was to awaken our conscience. He showed proof to us by His resurrection that there is a God and He has victory over death. Ephesians 5:14 advises us to awake and arise from the dead, and Christ will give us light.

Ephesians 5:14, “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”

The Blood Of Christ Purges Your Conscience From Dead Works.

Jesus’ desire through His blood is for us to completely purge our conscience and serve the living God. Hebrews 9:14 advises us that the blood of Christ will purge our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Hebrews 9:14, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

Jesus Came To Awaken Our Conscience.

An example of Jesus bringing conviction to our conscience is best demonstrated with the stoning of the prostitute as told in the gospel of John. Jesus told them to cast the first stone if their life was without sin. This caused them to awaken their conscience to their actions. John 8:7 tells us of Jesus asking those without sin to first cast a stone,

John 8:7, “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

Conviction Awakens Your Conscience To Act.

By Jesus speaking the truth about the people’s own sin and not just the adulteress, he brought self-conviction on the hearers of His word. Jesus awakened the people’s consciences to God’s Truth. John 8:9 tells us that Jesus’ words brought conviction to the people’s consciences and the left the woman alone.

John 8:9, “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.”

Awakening Conscience By Obeying God.

God is a God of righteousness and a God of Truth. His righteousness demands that we be obedient to Him. His Truth awakens our conscience where we willingly become obedient to Him. Romans 13:5 tells us to be obedient to God not just because we fear Him, but because we have conscience to do what is right.

Romans 13:5, “Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.”

An Awakened Conscience to Walk in the Will of God.

If we earnestly hear God’s Truth, our mind and conscience are renewed continually. Romans 12:2 advises us to have our conscience awaken continually by walking in the will of God.

Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
