Hebrews 10:22. The saying, "Cleanliness is next to godliness”, is not actually a quote from the Bible, but there are scriptures that back up the saying. Hebrews 10:22 talks about having “our bodies washed with pure water”. Cleanliness is important in order to be “next to godliness”, but it takes more than cleanliness and personal hygiene to be godly.

Hebrews 9:12. From a Christian perspective the definition of redemption specifies that the only redeemer is Jesus. Only Jesus’ act on the cross, his blood sacrifice, to take the punishment for our sins can lead to our eternal redemption. Jesus is the only one that has the perfect ransom and perfect gift to save us. There is no other way to salvation and redemption.

Romans 5:9. The key part of the definition of redemption is that a ransom must occur in order for redemption to occur. There are three persons involved in a ransom: the person being ransomed, the savior, and the recipient of the ransom. In the case of Christian redemption the person being ransomed is all of mankind.

Hebrews 2:14. There is a power of darkness. It is made manifest by the power of sin and death. The scriptures tell us that the devil has the power of death ( Hebrews 2:14, "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;").

Psalms 72:14. When we define deceit we must remember that deceit is not a permanent condition. A person is set free from a particular deceit once he knows the truth (John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”). When we do not know the truth we are in bondage, but we do not have to stay in bondage.

Hebrews 9:14. Jesus' desire through His blood is for us to completely purge our conscience and serve the living God (Hebrews 9:14, "How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?").

Hebrews 9:14. At one time all of mankind became separated from God when sin entered into human nature as result of Adam's disobedience in the Garden of Eden. Because God is righteous, He cannot tolerate the sin in man's nature. To reconcile a sinful mankind back to the living God, Jesus offered us a free gift of salvation.
