Child Discipline, A Parent's Responsibility
Hebrews 12:7. God approves of child discipline. It is an essential part of a parent and child relationship. Hebrews 12:7 says "...what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?" If parents do not discipline their children they are basically telling the child that they do not care about them. They are saying they do not want to train their children in what is right. They do not want to give them wisdom to correct their behavior. They do not care for their future either here on earth or in the here after. Child discipline is part of God's plan to bring salvation and a good life to everyone.
HEBREWS 12 BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:7, " If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?"
Child Discipline Is Done In Mercy
2 Samuel 7:15. Any discipline to a child must be done in mercy. We discipline a child not to judge the child. We discipline the child to help the child to create good habits. Discipline should always be done in mercy and not for the sole purpose of punishment. We must have mercy on a child just as God has mercy on us. Even if a child needs constant discipline, we must have mercy and never abandon the child (2 Samuel 7:14-15, "I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him...").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 7:15, "But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee."
Nurture Children A Child Through Discipline
Child discipline is done to nurture and correct a child's behavior. We must communicate to the child why he is being discipline. If we provoke them to a state of anger and wrath, we are no longer nurturing the child (Ephesians 6:4, "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:4, "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
Child Discipline Must Be Balanced With Comforting The Child
We as parents must admonish and correct our children, but we must balance it by being parents of mercy and comfort just as God is to us (2 Corinthians 1:3, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;").
BIBLE SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 1:3, "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;"
