Christian Kindness Rooted in Love and Mercy

Jesus tells us that “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. God has created mankind to love one another. Christian kindness is a way of life. No matter how bad the person, no matter how hateful the person, no matter how repulsive the person, we are to show Christian kindness to them just as God has shown His kindness to us. God’s kindness and love toward mankind is our best example of Christian kindness. He shows us mercy and kindness because of his love for us, and not because of our works or that we may be pretty good people. God desires us to be kind and compassionate toward everyone in the same way that He loves us no matter whether we hate Him or have turned away from Him. Christian Kindness is Based On Jesus’ Commandment to Love Our Neighbor.

Why must Christians show kindness to others? The simple answer is that Jesus tells us that “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (Matthew 22:39). God has created mankind to love one another. This is why hate, envy, and strife are sins against God. See Matthew 22:39 for more on loving your neighbor.

Matthew 22:39, “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

Christian Kindness is Not Just an Act, But a Way of Life.

God is a God of kindness and mercy. He shows us how we should show Christian kindness to others. Christian kindness is a way of life. No matter how bad the person, no matter how hateful the person, no matter how repulsive the person, we are to show Christian kindness to them just as God has shown His kindness to us. See Isaiah 54:10 for more on Christian kindness being a way of life.

Isaiah 54:10, “For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.”

Show Christian Kindness As God Has Shown Mercy on Us.

God’s kindness and love toward mankind is our best example of Christian kindness. God did not show kindness to mankind because of our works and that we are pretty good people. God offers us the free gift of salvation in the person of Jesus Christ because He loves us. See Titus 3:4 for more on God’s mercy and kindness.

Titus 3:4, “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,”

A Kind and Compassionate God.

God is a compassionate and kind God. God’s compassion is easy to see by us just looking at the definition of compassion. Compassion is a desire to free others from their suffering. His compassion is empathy not sympathy. This is because He has experienced our human condition through His Son Jesus Christ who lived among us in human form. See Matthew 9:24 for more on God, a kind and compassionate God.

Matthew 9:36, “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”
