The Definition of Christian Spiritual Warfare

Bible Summary. Our mind is the battlefield of spiritual warfare. The overall objective of spiritual warfare is to “have the mind of Christ”. The power of the Holy Spirit enables us to take on the mind of Christ. Keeping the mind of Christ is the good fight of faith. Accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior is only the first step of spiritual warfare. It is now a battle of endurance to keep the mind of Christ. Spiritual warfare does not focus on the destruction of the devil, the flesh, enemies, the world, or death. These things are already defeated. See below for Biblical commentary and scriptures concerning the definition of Christian spiritual warfare.

Christian Spiritual Warfare: Cast Down Every Imagination.

Our mind is the battlefield of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is a battle for our mind between our evil imaginations and the glorious knowledge of God. The overall objective of spiritual warfare is to “have the mind of Christ”. 1st Corinthians 2:16 defines the objective of spiritual warfare.

1st Corinthians 2:16, “For who hath known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”

Christian Spiritual Warfare Is a Fight of Faith.

Christian spiritual warfare is all about faith. Christian faith and hope gives us the power to fight in order to have the mind of Christ and lay hold of eternal life. 1st Timothy 6:12 defines spiritual warfare as the good fight of faith.

1st Timothy 6:12, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses”

Christian Spiritual Warfare is One of Endurance.

Christian spiritual warfare does not end when someone accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is only the beginning of spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare then becomes a battle of endurance. Yes we have the assurance of salvation, but we will now have to endure a great fight of afflictions. Hebrews 10:32 defines spiritual warfare as a battle of endurance.

Hebrews 10:32, “But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;”

Christian Spiritual Warfare Focuses On Christ and Not The Destruction of the Enemy.

Again Christian spiritual warfare focuses totally on conquering the human mind in order for us to take on and keep the mind of Christ. Spiritual warfare does not focus on the destruction of the devil, the flesh, enemies, the world, or death. These things are already defeated (Psalms 6:4). Psalm 6:4 advises us to rely on God to fight our spiritual battles.

Psalm 6:4, “Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.”
