God's Character Is Embodied In The Definition Of Compassion

God is a compassionate God. God's compassion is easy to see by us just looking at the definition of compassion. Compassion is a desire to free others from their suffering. God definitely desires to free all of us from suffering. His compassion  is empathy not sympathy. God is definitely emphatic with our human situation. This is because He has experienced our human condition through His Son Jesus Christ who lived among us in human form. He identifies and understands our situations, our feelings, and motives (Matthew 9:36, "But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd").

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 9:36, "But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd."

Christian Definition Of Compassion - Compassionate For Those That Are Lost

The definition of compassion includes having compassion for people that are lost. God has compassion for people that are lost. Jesus showed this compassion when His heart reached out to people that were lost. Jesus saw that so many people were lost because they did not have God's truth in them. Jesus' compassionate ministry on Earth was to reach out to the lost and teach them the truth (Mark 6:34,  "And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.")

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Mark 6:34,  "And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things."

Definition Of Compassion - Repentance Brings God's Compassion

The definition of compassion includes having compassion for people that repent. God has compassion for people that repent. God reaches out to people that repent of their sins. He will forgive and re-establish relationships with people that repent (Matthew 18:26-27,  "The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt").

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 18:27, "Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt."

Definition Of Compassion - Faith Brings God's Compassion

The definition of compassion includes having compassion for people that have faith in God. God has compassion for people that believe and trust in him. All you need to do is just believe that God has the power to perform miracles, and God will have compassion for you. This is what happen with the leper when he came to Jesus in Galilee. The leper just said "...If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean, And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean." (Mark 1:40-41).

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: Mark 1:41, "And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean."

Definition Of Compassion - Love and Deeds, Not Just Deeds

The definition of compassion must include love and good deeds, not just good deeds. Someone cannot be compassionate unless they have the love for others. God loves us and He desires for us to love one another. To be compassionate we must have love in us that compels us to do good deeds. If we just do good deeds for someone, but we have no love for that person we are not compassionate (1Co 13:3, "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing"). In fact, if you have something to give and do not give it to someone in need, you have no compassion or the love of God in you (1 John 3:17, "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? ").

BIBLE SCRIPTURE: 1 John 3:17, "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? "
