How To Trust - Trust God and Do Not Rely Totally on Yourself

Psalms 62:10. The Bible gives us guidance on how to trust ourselves. The short answer is we need to trust God at all times and to be wary of relying too much on ourselves. The Bible tells us in Psalms 62:8, "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah". Psalms 62:9 goes on to say that no matter what level of intelligence or skills we have, we as humans are about useless in obtaining our life's goals without God. God created us for a purpose and He is the only one that can guide us and enable us fulfill our purpose in life.

Definition of Human Nature

The short answer to the definition of human nature is it is the sum of qualities and traits shared by all humans. From a Christian perspective the definition of human nature centers around man's free will (choice) and his relationship to God.

The Nature vs Nurture Debate Is Superceded By Our Plain Desire To Do Wrong

The nature vs nurture debate is usually all about justifying someone’s bad behavior. This type of argument operates on a bad premise, namely that there is no God. The nature position declares that a person was just born bad. God did not make us to be bad, to sin and be disobedient to Him. The nurture position is that a person became bad because of his environment. This argument really boils down to “the devil made me do it.” This argument is in error as we always have a choice.

Redemption Definition – It Is Through Sin We Became Followers Of Satan, Separated From God

To be redeemed we first have to be lost, separated, and captive, be in slavery, and so on. In the case of the Christian redemption definition, we are separated from God and need redemption to be able to be reconciling back to God. But what separated us from God if He at one time called us, His creatures, very good? The answer is that sin entered our lives through Satan. It all happened in a twinkling of an eye when our forefathers, Adam and Eve, ate of the tree that God had told them not to eat. Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, were disobedient to God. Mankind followed Satan into sin. In the garden of Eden mankind sinned in three parts. We saw that the fruit was pleasant to our eyes (lust of the eyes) even though we were told we could not have it. We saw that the food was good to eat (lust of the flesh) even though we were not allowed to eat it. We sought wisdom by eating of the fruit even through this would be disobedient to God (pride of life) (Genesis 3:6, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat”).

Your Lust of the Eye is A Wrong Choice that Perverts God’s Purpose

Many of us may worship God for a season, but then get distracted by the lust of the eye and make wrong choices by putting other things above God. Your lust of the eye is basically idol worshiping. God made us to worship Him, but we will quickly make a wrong choice to worship things that are not God. It is in our nature to worship. The problem is that instead of worshiping God we will worship the other woman, our job, our car, or even ourselves. Your lust of the eye worships everything, but God.

Without Truth In Your Life You Are Separated From God

You can know God, but still be separated from God. Besides knowing God, God expects you to act on His truth (Titus 1:16, "They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate."). His central truth as proclaimed in the gospel of Jesus Christ is for you to love God and to love your neighbor (Mark 12:30-31). If you only do things based on your own likes and dislikes, you are not abiding in God's truth and you are separated from God.

Insatiable Desire Brings Discontent and Sorrows

Timothy 6:10. Without God in your life, it is natural to think that if you have more money, you will be more happy. The truth is that many people that have money are unsatisfied. This is because they are denying God, their true source of joy. In their continual denial of God, people will acquire an unquenchable and insatiable desire for money and possessions. They find that a little bit of money does not satisfy them, so they continue in their delusion that more money will satisfy them.  It is this unquenchable love of money that causes them the discontent and sorrows.

Insatiable Desire Breaks Covenant With God

Exodus 20:17. All things are made by God. Everything that we have was given to us by God. When we have an insatiable desire for things that are sinful or not ours, God gets very angry with us. We are breaking covenant with God. We are telling God that we know better than God what we need. We are telling God that we do not love Him and that these things that we covet are more important to us than Him. We show no love for our fellow man as in many cases the things we covet are possessed by our fellow man.

Acting On Your Insatiable Desire Makes God Angry

When Israel had taken Jericho and Achan acted on his insatiable desire and took the gold and silver from Jericho, God's anger was raised against the entire camp of Israel. When Achan could not control his insatiable desire, he offended God. He had caused all of Israel to have a breach of faith with God (Joshua 7:1, "But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel")..

Definition Of Lust - Idolizing Anything Above God

Colossians 3:5. The definition of lust includes idolizing anything above God. When you commit sex out of marriage, you are in lust. You are putting the sex act above God. When you are willing to do anything for a new car, you are in lust. You are putting the car above God. When you hate or envy someone because they have more money than you, you are in lust. Your envy is being put above God's commandment to love your neighbor. God is not pleased when we are in lust.
