Show Christian Kindness As God Has Shown Mercy on Us
Titus 3:4. God's kindness and love toward mankind is our best example of Christian kindness. God did not show kindness to mankind because of our works and that we are pretty good people. God offers us the free gift of salvation in the person of Jesus Christ because He loves us (Titus 3:4-5, “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;”).
Have Mercy on Me a Sinner - A Confession To Give God Glory
Joshua 7:19. God is Truth; He is Righteous; He is the only one that is perfect. When we ask God to have mercy on us a sinner (confessing our sins, our disobedient, our shortfalls), we give God glory that all Truth and all Righteousness flow from Him. We worship Him by acknowledging His perfection and by us admitting our imperfection (sin nature).
God Will Not Have a Relationship With Us Unless We Confess Sins
Hosea 5:15. Whether we know it or not, we are suppose to be in a loving relationship with God. When we are not, we have broken our relationship with Him. Our disobedience to God, our creator, is a sin. Sin started with Adam, our forefather, and continues with us today. Jesus is the answer for us to restore our relationship with God, but first we must confess our sins.
Nature versus Nurture – Many Things May Influence Our Actions, But God Determines What Is Right and Wrong
Deuteronomy 29:29. God is the great revealer. He is the holder of all things that are true. Nature or our environment does not determine what is true or what is right. When we get caught up in the question of nature vs nurture, we are basically assuming that our genes or our environment are controlling our actions. This also leads to us thinking that our genes or our environment are the source of right and wrong. This line of thinking is erroneous because God is the holder of truth and has control of everything.
Saving Grace is Offered to All of Mankind
Titus 2:11. God’s saving grace is offered to all men because of God’s love for all of mankind. Jesus came on this Earth to save mankind, not to condemn us. Our eternal salvation can only come through God’s grace. Not by chance or luck or fate or of our own will. By accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior we can enjoy God’s grace that is offered to all mankind (Titus 2:11, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,”).
The Way To Happiness Is Through Following Jesus
1 Peter 4:13. The only way to happiness is through following Jesus Christ. One of the reasons that Jesus came on this Earth was to show us how to live in righteousness. When we are found in Jesus Christ, our next step is to live like him. Living like Him includes both in His suffering and His joy. The suffering is a good suffering much like an athlete preparing for a sporting event. The athlete goes through much pain as well as joy in preparing for the sporting event, but the greatest joy is in winning the sporting event.
Cleanse Us From Our Sin and All Unrighteousness
1 John 1:9. If we choose not to confess sins and not accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we cannot have a loving relationship with God. It does not matter to God why we choose not to confess our sins, be it out of ignorance, self-righteousness, or just a continuous desire to sin and be disobedient to God. God requires our total surrender to Him. God desires and requires that we confess sins and our sin nature.
We Confess Sins and Accept God's Free Gift
1 John 4:15. All that mankind is required to do to accept this free gift, is to confess sins, and acknowledge that Jesus is our Lord and Savior (1 John 4:15, "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God."). Only through Jesus can we walk in obedience and be in right fellowship with God and with one another.
Christian Relationships Built Upon Good Works Lead People To Christ
1 Peter 2:12. As Christians we are charged to go and deliver the good news to the world. A few preachers may reach tens of thousands of people, but tens of millions of Christians can reach billions of people. It is primarily through our Christian relationships that we reach people for Christ. By us building and maintaining Christian relationships we produce good works that ministers to others. These good works glorify God and make known to others the glory of God.
Christian Relationships Are Built Upon Good Works
1 Timothy 6:18. It is only through good works that Christians can have right relationships with people. Our relationships are no longer driven by “you scratch my back, I scratch your back”. Good works now define our Christian relationships. By good works we show unmerited favor toward people just as God has done for us. We give freely of our Earthly possessions as our Father gives freely to us. We speak God’s truth as God has given us His truth.
