How to Add Value – Do Not Misapply the Golden Rule

Proverbs 24:29. The Bible tells us how to add value in any situation by following the Golden Rule (Luke 6:31, "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise"). This means at work employees should treat bosses as they would desire to be treated and visa versa. What we need to watch out after is that we do not misapply the Golden Rule. It is easy to get caught up in an “eye for eye” (Exodus 21:24) situation. This is where if someone treats us poorly we will do the same to them.

Love is the Fulfillment of God's Will

Romans 13:10. Love is a characteristic that God desires everyone to possess. The love that God desires for us is a special type of love called “agape” love. Agape love is defined as unmerited favor. This is a love that we show to others even if they do not deserve our loving kindness. Agape love is the love that God shows to all of mankind with the offer of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ, His Son. This type of love never shows ill will to anyone. It is the love we show when we love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

Human Kindness Starts With Freeing Yourself From Vanity, Strife, and Envy

Galatians 5:26. Having human kindness includes being friendly, generous, and having a warm heart. To have human kindness you must be free of habits that do not promote warm, friendly relationships. These bad habits include being haughty, being quarrelsome, and being envious of others. Haughtiness does not allow room for human kindness. You cannot be arrogant and friendly at the same time. Quarrels and strife do not allow room for human kindness. How can you have warm feelings for others and at the same time be arguing with them?

Prosperity and Wisdom Does Not Equal Godliness

1 Timothy 6:5. Many of us to include Christians can caught up in worldly goods and worldly knowledge and think it is a form of Godliness.(2 Timothy 3:5). First, godliness is about truth and not about worldly knowledge. Godliness is about speaking God's truth and not about winning arguments. There are many smart people in the world, but many of them are far from godliness. Also, godliness is about spiritual things and not about Earthly trappings. God may have blessed us with wealth. We may give to the poor and pay tithes, but that does not make us godly. We cannot buy godliness.

How To Have Self-Control – Focus on The Mind, Not Your Habit

2 Corinthians 10:4. If we are looking for how to have self-control in our lives, most quick-fix plans focus on breaking our habits. Examples of quick-fix plans include smoking patches, diet pills, seminars, and so on. These quick-fix plans focus on our habits, when the real problem is in our mind and thoughts. The Bible teaches us that the real battle for self-control is in our mind . The bad habits that we have are really symptoms of sinful strongholds in our mind. What most of us think are bad habits are also considered to be sin to God.

The Bible Says Keep Your Heart Under Self-Control

Proverbs 4:23. The Bible says, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23). We may see our circumstances or even our own natural abilities as our biggest problems, but it is really our heart where problems start and end. If we strive daily to keep our heart in check, bad thoughts and actions will cease from materializing in our lives. If we focus our hearts on God, the source of all goodness and love, we will keep our heart under self-control.

Love Ones - Trust Them As Well As We Love Them?

Isaiah 30:3. It is easy to think that love and trust go together, but the Bible teach us not to trust man or the things of this world. The only one we should both love and trust is God. We can love our fellow man, but we should only put our total trust and faith in God. When we put our faith and trust in someone or something above God, we are wrong. We must trust God more than our closest love ones. Putting our trust in someone other than God will eventually put us to shame.

Best Type of Government Has a Christian Vision Reflected in Its Laws

Proverbs 29:18. From a Christian perspective, a human Government should have laws that promote a vision based on the teachings of Christ. The good news is that many Governments to include the United States have laws based on Judeo-Christian beliefs, namely the Ten Commandments. Until recent times, U.S. laws have promoted the pursuit of happiness and peace based on Judeo-Christian beliefs. Now there appears to be an assault on the underpinning of U.S. governing laws. Laws are becoming based on principles that are at odds with Judeo-Christian beliefs.

Social Conscience Without God's Standard

Peter 4:4. Our society's conscience can reinforce, but not replace God's standards for living. In most cases in most societies the accepted social standard leads you away from God. People for the most part "think it strange that ye run not with them" instead of being led by God (1 Peter 4:4, "Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:"). They do not understand that they will be judged by God's standard and not by the accepted standards of the day.

Prideful Acts Cause Contention, Not Peace

Proverbs 13:10. Jesus loves us so much that He has given us peace for all that ask Him of it. Strife and contention does not come from God. All contention comes from pride (Proverbs 13:10, "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."). Prideful people are out of harmony with everyone around them. Prideful people are also out of harmony with God. Prideful people also cause contention within themselves because they will always want more and cannot satisfy themselves. Only through having a relationship with God can we have true peace and not strife.
