Envy

Human Kindness Starts With Freeing Yourself From Vanity, Strife, and Envy

Galatians 5:26. Having human kindness includes being friendly, generous, and having a warm heart. To have human kindness you must be free of habits that do not promote warm, friendly relationships. These bad habits include being haughty, being quarrelsome, and being envious of others. Haughtiness does not allow room for human kindness. You cannot be arrogant and friendly at the same time. Quarrels and strife do not allow room for human kindness. How can you have warm feelings for others and at the same time be arguing with them?

Fix A Bad Relationship By Promoting Honesty, Not Envy

When we are in a relationship that involves envy we have basically put ourselves in a position to be tempted by sin and go against God. When you envy you basically desire something that you do not have and something God has not given you. If you continue in your envy the result will be at best frustration, and at worst overt sin to obtain the object of your envy. We must fix a bad relationship that includes envy. Otherwise your envy will lead to lies, strife, fighting, drunkenness, despair, and stealing in an attempt to reach the object of your envy (Romans 13:13-14, "Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof").

Fix A Bad Relationship Through Removing Envy In Our Heart

James 3:13. How can you fix a bad relationship when envy is in your heart?

Fix A Bad Relationship By Avoiding Situations That Create Envy

1 Peter 2:1. In many relationships one or more parties is full of pride. Where one party is full of pride in a relationship, the other party is sure to be full of envy. These types of relationships are not good for either person. How do you fix a bad relationship like this?

Fix A Bad Relationship By Releasing The Envy That Is In Your Heart

How many of us are caught up in bad relationships that are corrupted by envy. We join the country club for the status and not the fellowship. We maintain relationships with certain people because of their status and not for any Christian purpose. Many of our relationships are based on people that have certain types of cars, fishing boats, a deluxe home theater, their special standing in the community, or they are just plain cool. In our heart of hearts we know many of our relationships are based on envy. We need to fix a bad relationship that is based on envy. We need to have our relationships focus on Christian fellowship rather on other people's stuff or status. A relationship based on status or stuff will not survive. It will eventually result in overt envy, strife, and hatred (1 Corinthians 3:3, "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?"). On the other hand, relationships based on Christ will last forever.
