GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR
The Bible has a lot of advise for overcoming our fears. We must learn to fear God over other things and trust him in everything we do. Having God's love in our heart is the best protection against fear. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. WHOM SHALL I FEAR?
Bible Summary. To have godly fear a person first has to have a relationship with God. Godly fear is an emotion that God wants us to have in our heart and it is an essential part of God’s salvation plan. Godly fear a precious, all-consuming emotion that enables us to have an eternal relationship with God. Godly fear is the evidence that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Revelation 15:4. Godly fear comes to us when we come into relationship with God and His holiness is revealed to us. When we truly understand the godliness of God, we come into a new reality. We are awe struck when we realize that we are in the presence of someone not like anyone we have ever met in our lives.
Psalm 33:18. Godly fear is the outward evidence of a Christian’s hope in God’s mercy. When we truly place all of our hope in God, our hope becomes a fervent emotion filled with godly fear.
Proverbs 16:6. It is godly fear that enables us to depart from evil and the terrible effects of sin. Because of our sin nature that we inherited from our forefathers beginning with Adam and Eve, we all are in danger of the deadly effects of sin. Many of us, the unsaved, do not realize the terrible consequences of sin nor that there is a Savior that can deliver us from this curse.
Proverbs 14:27. Godly fear is an essential emotion that keeps God first in our lives. Godly fear is a fervent desire that grows inside every Christian as they strengthen their relationship with God through Jesus Christ and the counsel of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 12:28. Another word for godly fear is piety. Piety is a word we do not hear very often in the world today. Piety means a reverence for god. This is the godly fear that Paul speaks of in Hebrews 12:28. Hebrews 12:28 says, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
Bible Summary. The Bible tells us that it is our “whole” duty to fear God. Fear God because he is a great mystery who we cannot control or anticipate what he will do next. As the all-powerful God of our creation, God is to be feared and revered. Being in fear of God is our acknowledgment that he is an awesome, most powerful God. That he is our first love.
