Bible Summary. When we encounter God, it can be quite fearful because he is the source of all righteousness, truth, and love. When we have a relationship with God we need not fear God, man, or anything else. God has given us promises not to fear. Many of God’s promises are to address our weaknesses, shortcomings, and fears. God’s promises are the reason to fear not the things of this world. See below for Biblical commentary and scriptures concerning fearing not because we have God’s promises.
Abram Feared Not Because God Promised to be His Shield and Great Reward.
When we encounter God, it can be quite fearful because he is full of all righteousness, truth, and love. An encounter with God is both fearful and full of promise. This was the case with God speaking to Abram in a vision . Genesis 15:1 tells us of God telling Abram to fear not as He is Abram’s shield and great reward.
Genesis 15:1, “After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”
Isaac Feared Not Because He Was the Heir of God’s Promises to Abraham. When we have a relationship with God we need not to fear neither God, man, or anything else. In the case of Isaac, God came to him to confirm the promises that he had promised to Isaac’s father, Abraham. Genesis 26:24 tells us of God telling Isaac to fear not and affirming the promises that God had given to Isaac’s father, Abraham.
Genesis 26:24, “And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”
Joshua Feared Not Because God Promised That His Enemies Would be Defeated.
Many of God’s promises are to address our weaknesses, shortcomings, and fears. This was the case with Joshua. He had everything he needed to conquer the Promise Land, but he still needed and relied on God. In Joshua 10:8 God tells Joshua to fear not as God would deliver Joshua’s enemies into his hands.
Joshua 10:8, “And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.”
We Should Fear Not Because God’s Promise of a Shepherd is Fulfilled.
God’s promises are the reason to fear not the things of this world. God promised us Jesus Christ who has come to save the world. God has also promised us godly leaders to guide us and to take care of us. In Jeremiah 23:4 God tells us of Jesus coming as well other leaders that will shepherd God’s people so that they will lack for nothing.
Jeremiah 23:4, “And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the Lord.”
