God’s Will and Sovereign Power
God’s Will Has the Power to Do Everything and Know Every Thought.
To know God’s will for us in our lives, we must first acknowledge his sovereign power and his intimate knowledge of all of our thoughts. He is all powerful, all knowing, and omnipresent. Job 42:2 advises us that God can do everything and he knows every thought.
Job 42:2, “I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”
God’s Will and Sovereign Power Created the Heavens and Earth.
Through God’s sovereign will he has created the heavens and Earth for his purposes. Through God’s will he has created each one of us for his purposes. It is his world and we inhabit it for his purposes. Isaiah 45:18 advises us that God created the heavens and earth for his purposes.
Isaiah 45:18, “For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.”
God’s Will Has Sovereign Power Over All Earthly Powers.
We may think that governments, presidents and kings have supreme power, but it is God’s sovereign will that rules supreme. Governments, kings, and rulers may think and act contrary to God, but God is still in control. Proverbs 21:1 advises us that a king’s heart is in the hands of God who can turn it at will.
Proverbs 21:1, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”
God’s Will Has Sovereign Power Over the Heaven and Earth.
It is so hard to understand God’s will. His will is so different from anyone and any creature that we have ever encountered in this world or imagined outside of our five senses. His will is sovereign. Deuteronomy 4:39 advises us of God’s sovereign power over the heavens and earth.
Deuteronomy 4:39, “Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”
