Jesus in Prophecy, His Birth and Beginnings Foretold

Bible Summary. The Old Testament is filled with the prophecies that confirm that Jesus is the Messiah. There are many prophecies in the Old Testament of the birth of Jesus and the first beginnings of his ministry. These prophecies are confirmed in the New Testament that Jesus is the Messiah having the same birth and ministry beginnings as foretold of the Messiah in the Old Testament. The Old Testament and New Testament both confirm that Jesus was born of a virgin, was born in Bethlehem, kings paid homage and tribute to him, his ministry would begin at a certain time, and that his ministry would begin in Galilee. The Messiah Will Be Born of a Virgin.

The Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14, ”Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”;

The Prophecy Fulfilled: Luke 1:35, “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”.

The Messiah Will be Born in Bethlehem.

The Prophecy: Micah 5:2, ”But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”;

The Prophecy Fulfilled: Matthew 2:1, “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem”.

Great Kings Will Pay Homage and Tribute to the Messiah.

The Prophecy: Psalm 72:10-11, ”The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.”;

The Prophecy Fulfilled: Matthew 2:11, “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”.

The Messiah Will Come at a Specific Time.

The Prophecy: Daniel 9:25, ”Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. ”;

The Prophecy Fulfilled: Galatians 4:4, “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,”.

The Messiah’s First Spiritual Work Will Be in Galilee.

The Prophecy: Isaiah 9:1-7, ”…by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations…The Prince of Peace”;

The Prophecy Fulfilled: Matthew 4:12-14 “Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying”.
