Jesus in Prophecy, The Messianic Lineage
Bible Summary. The Old Testament is filled with the prophecies that confirm that Jesus is the Messiah. There are many prophecies of the heritage and lineage of the Messiah in the Old Testament Bible. The New Testament confirms that Jesus is the Messiah having the same Messianic lineage prophesied in the Old Testament. The Old Testament and New Testament both confirm that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham, Judah, and David as well as being the Messiah and the Son of God. Jesus, the Messiah
The Messiah Will Be the Descendant of the Woman (Eve).
Prophecy: Genesis 3:15, ”And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3).
Prophecy Fulfilled: Galatians 4:4, “...God sent forth his Son, made of a woman...” (Galatians 4); Matthew 1:20-21, “...that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost...he shall save his people from their sins.”
The Messiah Will be a Descendant of Abraham, Through Whom Everyone on Earth Will be Blessed.
The Prophecy: Genesis 12:3, ”And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”.
The Prophecy Fulfilled: Acts 3:25-26, “...saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed ... having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”
The Messiah Will Be a Descendant of Judah.
The Prophecy: Genesis 49:10, “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. “.
The Messiah Will Be the Son of God.
The Prophecy: Psalm 2:7, “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”.
The Messiah Will Be a Descendant of David.
The Prophecy: Psalm 132:11, ”The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.”.
The Prophecy Fulfilled: Luke 1:32,33, “... the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever...” (Luke 1).
