Bible History Summary of the Kings of Israel. The kings of Israel ruled the kingdom after the death of Saul. All the tribes except Judah and Benjamin had refused to accept Rehoboam as king, and they split from the kingdom of Judah to become the kingdom of Israel. The major cities of the kingdom were Shechem, Tirzah, and Samaria. The kingdom of Israel was also known as the Northern Kingdom or the Kingdom of Samaria The rule of the kings of Israel began in 931 BC. JEROBOAM ruled 22 years from 931-910 BC. King Jeroboam established false worship and condemned by prophet. Scriptures: 1st Kings 12:25-14:20.

NADAB ruled 2 years from 910-909 BC. King Nadab followed his father’s sin and was killed by the conspirator Baasha. Scriptures: 1st Kings 15:25-31.

BAASHA ruled 24 years from 909-886 BC. King Baasha was the first king of the second dynasty and was condemned by the prophet Jehu. Scriptures: 1st Kings 15:32-16:7; 2nd Chronicles 16:1-6.

ELAH ruled 2 years from 886-885 BC. King Elah was killed by his captain, Zimri. Scriptures: 1st Kings 16:8-14..

ZIMRI ruled 7 days in 885 BC. King Zimri was the only king of the third dynasty and was killed by Elah’s general, Omri. Scriptures: 1st Kings 16:15-22.

OMRI ruled 12 years from 885-874 BC. King Omri was the first king of the fourth dynasty and established the capital of Samaria. Scriptures: 1st Kings 16:23-28.

AHAB and JEZEBEL ruled 21 years from 874-853 BC. King Ahab ruled during the time of the prophet Elijah, introduced the worship of Baal, and defeated Syria on two occasions. Scriptures: 1st Kings 16:28-34, 17, , 20:1-22:40.

AHAZIAH ruled 2 years from 853-852 BC. King Ahaziah was the third king in Omri’s dynasty. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 1.

JEHORAM ruled 12 years from 852-841 BC. King Jehoram ruled during the time of the prophet Elisha, was the brother of Ahaziah, and was killed by Jehu. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 3.

JEHU ruled 28 years from 841-814 BC. King Jehu was the first king of the fifth dynasty, slaughtered the house of Omri, and destroyed the worshippers of Baal. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 9:11-10:36.

JEHOAHAZ ruled 17 years from 814-798 BC. King Jehoahaz was the second king of the Jehu’s dynasty. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 13:1-9.

JEHOASH ruled 16 years from 798-782 BC. King Jehoash was the third king of the Jehu’s dynasty. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 13:10-25; 14:15-16.

JEROBOAM II ruled 41 years from 793-753 BC. King Jeroboam II ruled during the times of the prophets Jonah, Amos, and Hosea. He was a strong king. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 14:23-29; 14:15-16.

ZACHARIAH ruled 6 months in 753 BC. King Zachariah was killed by the conspirator, Shallum. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:8-12.

SHALLUM ruled 1 months in 752 BC. King Shallum was the only king of the sixth dynasty and was killed by Menahem. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:13-15.

MENAHEM ruled 10 years from 752-742 BC. King Menahem was the first king of the seventh dynasty and became a vassal to Assyria. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:16-22.

PEKAHIAH ruled 2 years from 742-740 BC. King Pekahiah was killed by his captain, Pekah. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:23-26.

PEKAH ruled 20 years from 752-732 BC. King Pekah was the only king of the eighth dynasty and was killed by the conspirator Hoshea. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:27-31.

HOSHEA ruled 9 years from 732-722 BC. King Hoshea was the only king of the ninth dynasty, lost a rebellion against Assyria and Israel became a province of Assyria. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 17:1-6.
