Kings of Judah List and Bible History

Bible History Summary of the Kings of Judah. The kings of Judah ruled the kingdom after the death of Saul. The tribes of Judah and Benjamin made up the kingdom of Judah while the other tribes of Israel became the kingdom of Israel. The capital of Judah was Jerusalem. The rule of the kings of Judah began in 931 BC. The kingdom existed until 586 BC when it was conquered by Babylon. The population was deported and Jerusalem and the Temple was destroyed. REHOBOAM ruled 17 years from 931-913 BC. King Reboboam caused the kingdom to split, led the people toward idolatry, and defeated by Shisha of Egypt. Scriptures: 1st Kings 12, 13, 14, 2nd Chronicles 10-12.

ABIJAM ruled 3 years from 913-911 BC. King Abijam won a major battle against Jeroboam. Scriptures: 1st Kings 15:1-8, 2nd Chronicles 13:1-22.

ASA ruled 41 years from 911-870 BC. King Asa did many good things, but became proud in later years. Scripture: 1st Kings 15:9-24, 2nd Chronicles 14-16.

JEHOSHAPHAT ruled 25 years from 873-848 BC. King Jehoshaphat did many good works and made alliance with Israel. Scriptures: 1st Kings 22:41-50, 2nd Chronicles 17-20.

JEHORAM ruled 8 years from 852-841 BC. King Jehoram kille his six brothers and died of a horrible disease. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 8:16-24, 2nd Chronicles 21.

AHAZIAH ruled 1 year, 841 BC. King Ahaziah was influenced by his mother Athaliah, and he was killed by Jehu. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 8:25 – 9:29, 2nd Chronicles 22:1-9.

ATHALIAH ruled 6 years from 841 to 835 BC. Queen Athaliah was regent,wife of King Jehoram. She installed Baal in Judah. She killed her grandchildren in order to seize the throne. Failed to kill who succeeded her to the throne. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 11:1-3, 2nd Chronicles 22:10-12.

JOASH ruled 40 years from 835-796 BC. King Joash led a revival with Jehoida’s leadership.In later years, fell away from God. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 12, 2nd Chronicles 23:16 – 24:27.

AMAZIAH ruled 29 years from 796-767 BC. King Amaziah was generally a good king. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 14:1-20, 2nd Chronicles 25.

UZZIAH (AZARIAH) ruled 52 years from 791-739 BC. King Uzziah expanded Judah’s territory, but was stricken with leprosy for intruding into the priest’s office. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 14:21 – 15:7, 2nd Chronicles 26.

JOTHAM ruled 16 years. King Jotham was a good king and Judah continued to prosper. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 15:32-38, 2nd Chronicles 27.

AHAZ ruled 16 years. King Ahaz did evil in the sight of God. He suffered military defeats. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 16; 2nd Chronicles 28.

HEZEKIAH ruled for 29 years. King Hezekiah was approved by God and God gave him 15 extra years. Sennacherib invades Judah and King Hezekiah was hospitable to the Babylonians. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 18-20; 2md Chronicles 29-32.

MANASSEH ruled for 55 years from 697-642 BC. King Manasseh allowed idolatry to grow and Judah was captured by the Assyrians. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 21:1-18, 2nd Chronicles 33:1-20.

AMON ruled for 2 years from 642-640 BC. King Amon was killed by his servants. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 21:19-26, 2nd Chronicles 33:21-25.

JOSIAH ruled for 31 years from 640-609 BC. King Josiah led a revival and died in battle with Egypt. This was the time of the prophets Jeremiah, Zephaniah, Nahum and Habakkuk. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 22:1-23:30; 2nd Chronicles 34-35.

JEHOAHAZ ruled 3 months in the year 609 BC. King Jehoahaz was replaced by his brother at the command of Necho, Pharaoh of Egypt. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 23:31-33; 2nd Chronicles 36:1-3.

JEHOIAKIM ruled 11 years from 609-597 BC. King Jehoiakim was condemned by Jeremiah. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 23:34 – 24:7, 2nd Chronicles 36:4-8.

JEHOIACHIN ruled 3 months in the year 597 BC. King Jehoiahchin was conquered and removed by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 24:8-16; 2nd Chronicles 36:9-10.

ZEDEKIAH (MATTANIAH) ruled 11 years from 597-586 BC. King Zedekiah rebelled against Babylon and Jerusalem fell. Scriptures: 2nd Kings 24:17-25:21; 2nd Chronicles 36:11-21; Jeremiah 39:1-10.
