Pride

Trust Definition - Trust God, Not Things

From a Christian perspective, the definition of trust means trusting God and not other things. Many people put their trust in wealth and the promises of wealth over God. Most people gamble and play the lottery because there is a promise of wealth if they win. By their actions, they have more hope on winning the lottery than hope in God that He will come through for them.

Alms Giving is Not Done for Pride or Fame

Church offerings and alms giving must not be motivated by pride or the desire for recognition. God desires for you to acknowledge Him first. If you give alms for earthly recognition or hopes of rewards, you are not putting God first in your life. You are putting yourself above God in your alms giving and church offerings. Giving alms freely without any intention of earthly reward or recognition demonstrates to God that you do put Him first in your life. God values your money and time as preciously as you do.

A Born Again Christian Is Reborn in Faith and Kept By Faith

Your faith and hope in God enable you to be a born again Christian. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are doing this in faith of God’s promises. To keep your salvation you must remain and stand in faith everyday. When you are born again you are like a branch that was cut off, but now you are grafted to the tree to live again. As long as you remain in faith you will remain born again in eternal relationship with God (Romans 11:19-20, “Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

Selfish Behavior Is Not Of God

When you display selfish behavior you are showing the pride of life in you. You are putting yourself above God. You reveal to God that you are "not of the Father, but ... of the world" (1 John 2:16, " For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."). When you are in true relationship with God, you will display a humble attitude. You realize the grace and love that a righteous God has given to you. Humbleness is the evidence that you are in right standing with God. Pride is the evidence that you are not of God.

Selfish Acts Reproduce More Selfish Acts

Selfishness is infectious. If one person is selfish and prideful, it is likely that they will incite others to be prideful and selfish. It one person boasts, another will be compelled to boast and tell tall tales. If one person is selfish, he will then entice others to follow his path. This happens with the drug addicts. They start taking drugs, and then they will get their friends hooked on drugs. This happens with adultery. If one person outside of marriage fulfills his sexual desires it is really two because his sexual partner is participating in the same act. Then these persons will more than likely have more sexual partners bringing them into the same self-indulgent sexual activities. God does not want us to indulge in our own selfish habits and play the harlot with others (Ezekiel 16:15, "But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was."). God desires us to have a loving relationship with Him with no selfish behavior. If we love God, we have the power to not be enticed by selfish acts of others and not get in a place of selfishness where we entice others to go against God.

Prideful Acts Cause Contention, Not Peace

Jesus loves us so much that He has given us peace for all that ask Him of it. Strife and contention does not come from God. All contention comes from pride (Proverbs 13:10, "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."). Prideful people are out of harmony with everyone around them. Prideful people are also out of harmony with God. Prideful people also cause contention within themselves because they will always want more and cannot satisfy themselves. Only through having a relationship with God can we have true peace and not strife.

Selfish People Have No Love In Them

1 Corinthians 13:4. Prideful people will envy when someone else has what they want. Love does not. Prideful people puff themselves up. Love does not. Selfish people act unseemly in order to get what they want. Love does not. Selfish people seek only to satisfy their flesh. Love does not. Prideful people are easily provoked when they do not get what they want. Love does not. Prideful people will think and do any evil to get what they want. Love does not. Selfish people will gladly participate in any falsehood to get what they want.

A Self-Centered Person Glories In Himself And Not In God

When a person is centered only on themselves they do not realize that God is in control and that they need to be centered on God. God created this world, not us. We have forgotten God when we glory in our own wisdom, might, and riches. We deceive ourselves when we think we can rely on ourselves. God desires for us to be wise, to be mighty, and to be rich, but He demands that we glorieth in Him (Jeremiah 9:23). We are in His world that He created. We were created to glorify God in every situations and never put ourselves above God.

JEREMIAH 9 BIBLE SCRIPTURE Jeremiah 9:23, "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:"

God Is Not In The Thoughts Of A Self-Centered Person

People that are self-centered are absorbed in themselves. They have no room in their heart for God. Self-centered persons are under strong delusions that they can handle ever situation. They are too ignorant or prideful to seek God for their needs and for His wisdom. God is not in the thoughts of a self-centered person (Psalms 10:4, "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.").

PSALMS 10 BIBLE SCRPTURE Psalms 10:4, "The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts."

Your Mouth Makes You A Fool When You Are Full Of Yourself

God says that you are a fool when you are full of pride (Proverbs 14:3, “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them. Your mouth causes your downfall.”). You are basically deceiving yourself thinking that you are above God. God does not suffer fools or evil people gladly. Through your boasting, you reveal to God and man what is in your heart. Your mouth reveals that you believe you are above God. By boasting of yourself, you do not acknowledge Him. How can anyone say they are greater than their Creator? You cannot say you created your wisdom, your strength, your beauty, or your riches. Only God can say He created this world and everything in it.
