A Self-Centered Person Relies On Himself And Not God

Bible Summary. People that are self-centered are absorbed in themselves. They have no room in their heart for God. Self-centered people have no room for the true love of another person. A self-centered person glories in him or herself and not in God. Self-centered people are outside of God's plan. God desires for us to trust Him more than anything else in this world. People that are self-centered are absorbed in themselves. They have no room in their heart for God. They are too ignorant or prideful to seek God for their needs and for His wisdom.

See Scripture Commentary: Psalms 10:4 advises that the selfish have no room in their thoughts for God.

Love is Many Things, But It is Not Self-Centered.

Love is not selfish, envious, nor prideful. Selfishness and love are complete opposites and cannot coexist at the same time. Envy will lust for things that it does not have. Love does not. Prideful people puff themselves up. Love does not.

See Scripture Commentary: 1 Corinthians 13:4 advises that love and self-centerednesss are complete opposites.

A Self-Centered Person Glories In Himself And Not In God.

When a person is centered only on themselves they do not realize that God is in control and that they need to be centered on God. God created this world, not us. We have forgotten God when we glory in our own wisdom, might, and riches.

See Scripture Commentary: Jeremiah 9:23 advises against glorying in your wisdom, your might, or your riches.

Trust in Yourself Versus Trust God.

God's plan is for us to trust completely in Him for all of our needs. This is the Christian definition of trust. He desires us to continually acknowledge Him and stay in close fellowship in Him. When we go against His plan and trust solely in our own understanding (be self-centered), God considers our self-centered actions wicked.

See Scripture Commentary: Proverbs 3:5 advises us to trust God more than we trust in ourselves.
