Judges 6:15. There are many good excuses for not acknowledging God and the calling that is on our lives. Many of us when we are called by God, we give the good excuse that “I am not capable of fulfilling my calling”. The trouble with good excuses like this is that they do not work with God. God has a calling, a purpose, for our lives and with that he has made provision for us to fulfill our calling.

Proverbs 22:16. If relying on our ourselves does not work, we will then seek others to satisfy our wants. Most times this reliance on others goes past getting a helping hand or charity. Our reliance on others soon turns to fulfilling our wants versus God's truth. We will quickly take counsel to fulfill our wants at the expense of hurting our fellowman.

Psalms 34:10. Why do people with talents, resources, and good gifts go lacking? It is because they are going it alone without the truth of God. They are like young lions that only rely on themselves, but soon go hungry (Psalms 34:10, "The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. Proverbs"). If you really believe in God and understand who He is, why would you not seek His advise in everything that you do?

Isaiah 56:11. Another key component of the definition of greed is that you are never satisfied with what you accumulate. The sin nature in all of us craves for more and more. If we have two cars, we want three. If we own a house, we want to own another one. If we have a wife, we want a mistress. If we were not constraint by our economic situation, most of us would continue to accumulate goods and would never stop.
