Prosperity and Wisdom Does Not Equal Godliness

1 Timothy 6:5. Many of us to include Christians can caught up in worldly goods and worldly knowledge and think it is a form of Godliness.(2 Timothy 3:5). First, godliness is about truth and not about worldly knowledge. Godliness is about speaking God's truth and not about winning arguments. There are many smart people in the world, but many of them are far from godliness. Also, godliness is about spiritual things and not about Earthly trappings. God may have blessed us with wealth. We may give to the poor and pay tithes, but that does not make us godly. We cannot buy godliness.

Christians Have A Higher Inspiration to Have Self-Control

1 Corinthians 9:25. Christians have a higher inspiration to have self-control than a Olympic athlete. An Olympic athlete is inspired by the opportunity to win a gold medal. Many Olympic athletes train for the Olympics for years and they have great self-control and discipline. On the other hand, Christians have a greater inspiration to obtain and maintain self-control and not to sin.

The Way To Self-Control – Realize That It Starts Within Ourselves

Proverbs 25:28. The way to self-control starts from within ourselves. We can try the latest fad diets, smoking patches, and anger management classes, but these self-control fixes will not work until we realize that the fix is within ourselves and with God. One definition of self-control (temperance) is “the virtue of one who masters his desires and passions, especially his sensual appetites” (J.H. Thayer). The virtue of self-control is a moral excellence that starts within ourselves.

The Evidence Of the Supernatural

2 Corinthians 4:18. The supernatural (the not seen) of this world is evident by miracles and unexplained phenomenon. Many miracles can be explained away, but much of it cannot. The actual creation of this world was a miracle not explained by natural phenomenon (the seen). Even for those that believe in evolution, they cannot provide a reasonable account of how life and matter got started. Evolution and the "Big Bang" theory have a supernatural, underlying assumption. That assumption being a supernatural, eternal power (God) who would have had to set off the "big bang".

Holy Spirit In Us and Godly Relationships - Definition Of Human Nature

Galatians 6:8. From a Christian perspective the definition of human nature cannot be explained adequately without explaining the human nature that is in right relationship with God. Our human nature may have the tendency to follow our sin nature, but that is not why God made us. God made us to worship Him. Jesus Christ gives us that opportunity to repent of our sin nature and be in right relationship with God (Romans 8:12-14, "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

Sowing to the Flesh or to the Spirit – You Get What You Give

Galatians 6:8. God has created this world where you get what you give, but at the same time God makes the rewards, not ourselves. If we only sow and give to our flesh, we will only reap corruption. The fleshly things in life (food, possessions, sensual experiences, and so on) only bring satisfaction temporarily and quickly pass away. All fleshly things are only desirous temporarily because they quickly decay and corrupt eventually resulting in death. If we sow in the Spirit daily (give genuine love to God and our fellow man), we will reap eternal things and eventually eternal life.

A Born Again Christian Is Reborn As Incorruptible

1 Peter 1:23. A born again Christian is born of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. When we first accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God’s Holy Spirit enters us. When we are born again we now have God’s incorruptible seed in us. If we will completely surrender to God everyday, God’s word will live and abide in us forever (1 Peter 1:23, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever”).

We Hate God Because We Do Not Know Him

Jude 1:10. We tend to dislike things we do not know. If we are confronted with something we do not know and perceive it as a threat, our reactions can be quite hateful. This is the way many of us our with God. We do not really know God so we hate God. We only know that He and His righteousness gets in the way of us enjoying our sinful ways. We cannot keep enjoying our sins when His Truth makes it obvious that our sinful ways are corrupting us.

God Help Us by Giving Us Life

John 6:27. God shows His compassion to us by offering eternal life. I cannot think of anyone that does not want eternal life. God will help us by giving us eternal life, if we will pursue things that are of Him. His things are eternal. Things like love, truth, and goodness are eternal and are of Him. If we focus on these eternal things we are building an everlasting relationship with Him. Temporary, material things are only a means and not an ends.

Definition of Deception – Hope In Temporary Things and Not In Things Eternal

Job 27:8. Another aspect of the definition of deception is that it is only temporary. A deception is only a deception until it is found out. It is temporary. On the other hand, truth is eternal. Many of us use deception to fool others as well as ourselves. Most of us put our hope in material things such as money, other people, or our own abilities. The promises of material things as well as actual material things are only temporary and are not eternal. We either fool ourselves or others when we put our hope in material things, imagined or not.
