Hebrews 11 Bible Commentary - By Faith
Hebrews 11 tells us that faith is ... the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen ... Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.". Hebrews 11 goes on to advise us on the importance of faith and gives examples of faith from the elders of the Old Testament.
Justification by Faith – The Only Way To God
Hebrews 11:2. The only way to be justified with God (to be in good standing with Him) is through faith. Faith is how the prophets and elders in the Bible obtained a good report with God (Hebrews 11:2, “For by it the elders obtained a good report”). “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice...” (Hebrews 11;4). “By faith Enoch ...
The Power Of Faith In Jesus Christ
Hebrews 11:1. Jesus came on this earth to save us from Hell and eternal separation from God. Jesus showed us how to live. He showed us that mankind can defeat death, and He gave us the plan of salvation. All we have to do is believe in Him that Jesus is the one way to salvation. This is challenging for most of us because what Jesus has done defies our five senses. He performed miracles.
The Existence of the Natural and Supernatural
Hebrews 11:3. The world we experience around us is more than what we sense with our five senses. The world consist of both the natural and supernatural. Both the natural and supernatural come from God. God is supernatural and the worlds (the natural) were created by the word of God.
Our Unbelief In God Brings No Rewards
Hebrews 11:6. We must have faith that God is the source of all our needs and rewards. We must want to please God, have the right motives, and believe in his promises. Many times when things that we desire are within reach we do not rely on God.
A Supernatural Act Occurred When God Created The Universe
Hebrews 11:3. Most people only think of the world around them in terms of natural phenomenon. We see the stars and we touch the Earth, but we do not consider spiritual things that are outside our five senses (the supernatural). This is why many of us doubt God exists. He is outside our five senses. He is supernatural.
Faith and Christianity
What is Christian faith? Why is faith so important? How do you get faith?
These questions are key for understanding Christianity. Christianity and faith go hand in hand. No one can call themselves a Christian without faith in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:1 is a key scripture to begin to understand what is faith and how you get faith.
