Trust and Love God, and Limit Your Trust in Man

It is easy to have the viewpoint that if you love someone, you also trust them. This may be our emotional response to trust and love, but the Bible teaches us that this is wrong. In human relationships love and trust do not go together. We are to love everyone, but our trust should be reserved for God. God is the only one that we should absolutely trust. Trust is dependent on someone's intentions and ability to fulfill their promises. God is the only one that has the intention and ability to fulfill all of His promises. Humans may have good intentions, but the do not have the capability to fulfill their promises in all cases. See commentary and scriptures below for more on what the Bible says about trust and love.

Trusting Others More Than God Will Bring Shame and Confusion.

The Bible teaches that we should trust God before we trust anyone. This includes love ones, people in authority, our livelihood, or anything that we may respect or idolize. No one but God can fulfill all their promises. Totally relying on anything else will bring us shame and confusion.

See Scripture Commentary. Isaiah 30:3 advises us on how trusting others more than God will bring us shame and confusion.

Bible Says For You To Love and Trust Your Wife.

According to the Bible the marriage relationship is the only human relationship where you should both trust and love one another. The marriage relationship is special in that we “become one flesh”. Otherwise, our trust is reserved for God. Our love though is for everyone.

See Scripture Commentary. Proverbs 31:11 advises us on loving and trusting your spouse.

Trust and Love - Trust God First.

In human relationships, trust and love do not go together. The Bible says do not even trust your love ones in your own house: your son, your daughter, your daughter-in-law, and so on. God is the only one that we can absolutely trust to fulfill all of His promises.

See Scripture Commentary. Micah 7:5 advises us on trusting God first.
