This is the second part of the Bible list concerning the seven statements that Jesus made while he was on the cross. These seven sayings chronologically document distinct emotions of Jesus while he was on the cross. The emotions that Jesus felt included forgiveness, salvation, relationship, abandonment, distress, triumph and reunion. 4. Jesus Spoke of Abandonment on the Cross.

“…My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?”

Background: Jesus on the cross was mocked by the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes says that Jesus nor God can deliver him, and darkness was over the land. Bible References: Matthew 27:46 ”.And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”; Psalm 22:1, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”.

5. Jesus Spoke of Distress on the Cross.

“…I thirst”

Background: Jesus was nearing the ending of his suffering on the cross. Bible References: John 19:28 ”After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.”; Psalm 69:21, “They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”.

6. Jesus Spoke of Triumph on the Cross.

“…It is finished.”

Background: The suffering of Jesus on the cross was about end. Bible References: John 19:30 ”When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. ”.

7. Jesus Spoke of Reunion on the Cross.

“…Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.”

Background: The crucifixion of Jesus comes to an end. Darkness is all over the earth, and the veil of the temple is torn. Bible References: Luke 23:46 ”And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. ”; Psalm 31:5, “Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.”.
